Well, as you know, the RIAA and the Major Record labels including Britney Spears' label, Jive/Arista (also the home of Whitney "I Forgot To Exhale" Houston) have won (at least temporarily) against the mp3 format which they give free advertisement to every time there is a lawsuit making more people aware of the mp3 format and winamp version 2.24 (used to extract asf files into wav files which then can be recorded to CD Audio). Every CD that goes into your computer should be turned into mp3 so that we may hear it first BEFORE we buy it. You can share them via Napster (click on the Napster link for other audio utilities such as Winamp) Speaking of Britney Spears, her new song on Jive/Arista melodically sounds like a Billy Squier song from the movie, "Metropolis." So much so, that I myself, have a remix of "Oops...I Did It Again" with the song it mirrors, Billy Squiers' "On Your Own" (CBS/Sony Music). Is that interesting? If you would like a copy on 44kHz, 128bps mp3 format, please email me. Be sure to mention what you are emailing about if it is not already in the subject. If the RIAA and it's member labels insist on ending the "listening before you buy", then Do NOT BUY any music from the RIAA member labels (please don't read this link) and keep this boycott... INDEFINITELY!. Read on.. you will find it most informing. You will see regulation at work and censorship (of missing news articles) regarding the RIAA and Napster. Interestingly, there was an article on c-net either Thursday or Friday (July 27 or July 28, 2000) regarding a RECORD INDUSTRY executive whom asked not to be named who uses Napster. It has suddenly disappeared. Where did it go? Well, Hilary Rosen of the RIAA, what do you have to say about that? I think that's called "hypocrisy." It translates into this... "We have the power so you can't do it unless we say so but we'll do it regardless."
Statement by Rosen on Court of Appeals' Decision to Grant a Temporary Stay "The Court of Appeals' decision today granting Napster a temporary stay of the preliminary injunction is obviously a disappointment, but we remain confident that the Court will ultimately affirm once it has had an opportunity to review the facts and the law. "The Court of Appeals apparently regards this case as the first of its kind, and wants to consider it before any injunction takes effect. The Court's order sets an expedited schedule for that review. "It is frustrating, of course, that the tens of millions of daily infringements occurring on Napster will be able to continue, at least temporarily. In fact, since the district court issued its order, the illegal downloading of copyrighted music openly encouraged by Napster has probably exceeded all previous records. "We look forward to the day when the infringements finally cease."
"I think that if I own my shirt and you borrow it, it doesn't matter whether or not I have another shirt. You're just not entitled to borrow it without my permission. And if you have a copyright asset, that is the principle of copyright--that you get to control and own your own work, and other people don't get to profit from it without your permission."
I would like to ask you to not buy music in any format except from these artists (as listed as supporters of Napster). Why, you ask? It's really very simple. Buying music is not helping the artist as it should. The RIAA and labels feel threatened by Napster and related programs because they empower the artist and bypass the label. Remember the TLC: Behind The Music story on VH-1, selling over ten (10) million album of their second album, and yet each of the three members only made $50,000 that year (after the label and red tape was paid). They had to declare bankruptcy. That made use of YOUR tax money. The RIAA is the Microsoft of the Music Industry; the TAA (Texas Apartment Association) and it's member communities such as Balcones Woods Apartments, of the Texas renter's market.
I'm
not sure why the artists are against Napster and related programs. The only
people profiting are the executives. The artists get no more money if Napster
loses since less people will be able to preview. I understand why the RIAA and
labels are
against it. They have NO CONTROL.
I sincerely hope Madonna (Maverick/Sire/Warner), Mariah (Sony (rumoured to soon be at Arista)), Celine (Sony), Britney (Jive/Arista), Whitney (Arista), Faith Hill (Warner), Trisha Yearwood (MCA-Nashville aka UMG) will soon speak out so they don't lose sales. You can email your congressman with a form letter (you know how GOVERNMENT just loves to send YOU form letters) from this page (http://stations.mp3s.com/stations/95/the_million_email_march.htm). Therefore, if Napster loses, then TV and Radio should also be shut down. To see how Napster HELPED the RIAA and it's greedy member companies, let us consider the following: Example: I downloaded the following full cd's and music from these artists:
*I had to buy these CD's overseas since they are either not released here in America or the tracks contained are different. I even bought the CD's AFTER I downloaded the entire CD's from Napster. I bought the CD's after! I did not have to buy the CD's. I already had all the songs (and the RIAA will want to know how I found the track listing, it's called FAN sites; something they will never know about). If you are really concerned about the artists as you say you are, you will cooperate and work with Napster to the use Secure mp3 format.I did buy the CD's but of course because labels here are so ANAL in taking things out of print or overpricing (as in a lawsuit by many US States (courtesy of Yahoo) them. I had to send that US money overseas which means less money for them AND the artist. This also means loss of US Jobs and this hurts the US Economy. See how Napster promoted me to find the CD. I had to do the research since NONE of the labels or MUSIC stores listed in this page had these CD's or made it easy to find.
Interestingly, I have 3 burners on 5 computers and 2 versions of
Adaptec Easy CD Creator (read
how Windows 2000 and Easy CD Creator 3.5c can work together).
The paragraph below poses an interesting point.
Can you believe the Record Labels are trying to close mp3.com since they claim that mp3.com twharted their attempt at control of music? The paragraph above is very interesting. I wonder what the Government, the RIAA, and the few loser artists would say about that? I know the Austin (Texas) Public Library has Metallic and Dr. Dre. And, the public library is free (unless you're late). I say we all use the public library as part of the boycott against the RIAA. So, for the cost a blank CD, you can create as many copies as you wish, infringement, but not if it's from the public library. As someone who has mp3's on 80+ compact disc-recordables which are part of 50 pack from Imation for $29.99 at Best-Buy here in Austin, I have to question why a Compact Disc is priced nearly $17.00. Now, you and I both know the record labels get them so much cheaper. Questions? Contact your local senator or congressman. The following comments and links were not in the original letter. Any receipt from anyone the RIAA will be posted above the original message with my response to their comments as well. Things you can do in less than one (1) minute (60 seconds) to truly "Save the Music!"
Keep in mind the if the RIAA wins, YOU lose. The public whom listens to music before they buy it will NO longer have that freedom. Also, keep in mind, new artists who aren't Madonna, Celine Dion, the Backstreet Boys, or Mariah Carey, whom are unique and are unable to secure a contract the "Major" labels will have no outlet. Yes, I like Madonna, Mariah, Celine, and the many other famous artists. But, they were not born famous. Celine, for example, couldn't get a contract for quite a number of years when she started out. It wasn't until, her now husband, Rene; mortgaged his house. Mortgaged his house..! This was in the 1980's and he had to mortgage a house just to get a demo tape of less than three songs. Musical freedom will be demolished. Return to the top of the page -----Original Message-----

You can use http://www.google.com and put in your senator’s name and the word email and it will find it if it is on the web.. use the example in the search box: +kay+bailey+Hutchinson+email (There was 1 hit for this and on the page, there was a link to US and UN officials which her address was there) As my friends and colleagues know, I normally post a complaint on the web first. As a registered voter in Austin (Travis County), Texas, I recently began to become aware of political issues which affect my freedom of speech and expression. My right to enjoy entertainment in America is now threatened by the RIAA, the Recording Industry Association of America. I have heard many people talk about the RIAA and mp3’s. I look at the RIAA as the Microsoft (DOJ vs. Microsoft Trial Update) of the Music Industry. They just have to have their hands in everything. I guess as American citizens we should view the RIAA as a MONOPOLY. What other choices compete with the RIAA? Since the RIAA is in reality, a monopoly, and we can bust Intel and Microsoft for activities such as that; I think we should bust the RIAA as well. As you can see by the email headers, I sent this email to mp3.com, the RIAA civil litigation (according the RIAA website), and to my senator, Kay Bailey Hutchinson. While proofreading, I decided to forward to sixty-five plus people I know all over the world! Don’t you just love the Internet? It takes away control. This affects such artists as Madonna, Celine Dion, Gloria Estefan, Mariah Carey, Anggun, and Dido, just to name a few. We all know that most of the Artists (collectively speaking) in the previous lists have sold over 200 million copies of their albums worldwide. I also know that is a low estimate but with Madonna and Mariah, that is the very least. So, for your right to listen to what you want on the format you want, boycott the record labels in this suit, which are Universal (including MCA), Sony (including CBS, 550/Epic), Warner Bros (including Sire, Atlantic, Elektra)., Arista, Atlantic, BMG (BMG including RCA and Arista), RCA, Capitol, Elektra, Interscope, Sire, and Paul McCartney’s MPL Communications. PLEASE NOTE: Any and all comments returned to this email can legally be posted via the First Amendment to a website such as http://come.to/badservice which has been averaging 500 hits per day on four (4) stories. Keep in mind that I have Microsoft Office 2000, Microsoft Office XP and can put an email into clean, html format as soon as15 minutes of receipt of a response. This is not a threat. This is a statement of fact and a promise. "we'll go floating down.. floating down.. floating down to Agenais" - Track 07, Donna Lewis from the CD, Now In A Minute
