Restore

SUMMARY
This article explains how to enable and disable the System
Restore feature in Windows Millennium Edition (Me) and Windows
Whistler (through Build 2419).
CAUTION: Disabling System Restore removes all
previous restore points. To continue to use System Restore to
restore your computer to a previous point, do not disable System
Restore.

The System Restore feature is enabled by default. To disable
System Restore in Windows Me (Millenium Edition):
- Right-click My Computer, and then click
Properties.
- On the Performance tab, click File System, or
press ALT+F.
- On the Troubleshooting tab, click to select the
Disable System Restore check box.

Click OK twice, and then click Yes when you are
prompted to restart the computer.
- To re-enable System Restore, follow steps 1-3, but in step 3,
click to clear the Disable System Restore check
box.

The System Restore feature is enabled by default. To disable
System Restore in Windows Whistler:
- Click on the Start
Button; select Settings, then Control
Panel.
- Click on Administrative Tools, then Computer
Management.
- Under Services And Applications, select Services,
then double-click System Restore Service to open it.
- Under Services Status, stop the service, then changed
the Startup Type to disabled or manual.
- To re-enable System Restore, follow steps 1-4, but in step 4,
start the service and change the Startup Type to manual
or automatic.
System Restore is the feature that allows a
computer system to be rolled back, or restored, to a point before
certain events took place, for example, prior to specific software
or hardware installations. System Restore is a powerful tool that in
most cases, should not be disabled.
